Bahar Muradova: The right to safe housing for women has become a global priority
"I express my sincere gratitude to the organizers for keeping such issues as gender equality, inclusive urban development, and the right to adequate housing among the top priorities of the global agenda. This discussion once again demonstrates the strong connection between urban planning, social well-being, sustainable development, and gender equality."
As reported by BAKU.WS, these were the words of Bahar Muradova, Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, at a ceremony organized within the framework of the World Urban Forum (World Urban Forum 13). The event was dedicated to the co-development of gender-transformative strategies for ensuring adequate housing for all women and girls within the framework of the Women's Assembly.
In her speech, she emphasized that the quality of people's lives depends not only on economic opportunities but also on access to safe, affordable, and people-centered urban spaces:
"Today, in many regions of the world, women and girls continue to face serious difficulties in accessing adequate housing and safe living conditions.
Armed conflicts, humanitarian crises, and climate change increase their vulnerability and limit access to basic services.
At the same time, unequal access to property rights, economic opportunities, and social protection mechanisms further deepens existing inequality.
That is why gender-sensitive approaches have become an integral part of the strategic agenda shaping the future of cities."
Bahar Muradova also noted that green development, digital innovations, social integration, and safe living conditions are implemented in an interconnected manner, and ensuring equal opportunities for women and girls has been identified as a key priority:
"This approach is also reflected in the development model of our capital. Baku serves as a modern urban model promoting safety, accessibility, and sustainable solutions. Special attention is given to public spaces, mobility, green infrastructure, and social services.
The fact that Baku hosts major international platforms demonstrates the growing role of cities in global dialogue and cooperation. This approach fully aligns with the 'Voice of Cities' concept promoted by UN-Habitat."
