Today is the birthday of the National Hero of Azerbaijan, Colonel-Shahid Ilgar Mirzoyev.
BAKU.WS recalls that Ilgar Anzor oglu Mirzoyev was born on May 8, 1973, in the city of Gardabani, Georgian SSR.
In 1980, he enrolled in the secondary school of his hometown, which he graduated from in 1990. In 1991, I. Mirzoyev was admitted to the Baku Higher Combined Arms Command School of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan. After completing his studies in 1995, he began serving in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan with the rank of lieutenant.
In 2000, he distinguished himself in military service, for which he was given an early promotion to the rank of major.
From 2003 to 2005, he continued his education at the Military Academy of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Over the years, he served in the cities of Baku, Ganja, Nakhchivan, Beylagan, Goranboy, and Shamkir.
During his service, he was awarded the jubilee medals "10th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1991-2001)," "90th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1918-2008)," "95th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1918-2013)," the medals "For Distinguished Military Service" III degree, "Veteran of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan," and "For Impeccable Service" of all three degrees.
From mid-March 2016, the Armenians began intensively violating the ceasefire. On the night of April 1-2, positions of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan and populated areas along the entire front line were subjected to intensive shelling by the enemy. From April 2-5, the intensity of fighting along the entire line of contact reached its peak.
During the fighting, the Azerbaijani army delivered retaliatory strikes against Armenian positions. I. Mirzoyev commanded the N-th military unit during the combat operations that went down in history as the April battles. He participated in battles on the Tartar direction of the front. During night battles, the Azerbaijani army occupied advantageous positions and strategic heights, particularly around the village of Talish. Within two hours, over 20 Armenian army posts were destroyed and seven strategic heights were captured.
For the bravery and heroism displayed during the April battles, Lieutenant Colonel I. Mirzoyev was promoted to the rank of colonel. In the same year, he was awarded the orders "For Service to the Fatherland" of II and III degrees.
On February 23, 2019, Ilgar Mirzoyev was appointed Chief of Artillery of the 3rd Army Corps.
On the morning of July 14, 2020, while repelling an enemy attack during fierce fighting on the Tovuz direction of the Azerbaijani-Armenian state border, Ilgar Mirzoyev was heroically killed. He was buried at the II Alley of Honorable Burial in Baku.
On December 9, 2020, by decree of President Ilham Aliyev, Colonel Ilgar Mirzoyev was posthumously awarded the title of "National Hero of Azerbaijan."
He was married and is survived by a son and a daughter.
