Azerbaijan's National Debt Volume Revealed
Azerbaijan's state debt as of April 1, 2026 amounted to 24 billion 464.7 million manats, or 18.7% of the projected gross domestic product (GDP) for the current year.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the Ministry of Finance, this figure is 8.1% less compared to the data as of April 1, 2025.
Of the total state debt, $4 billion 689.3 million, or 7 billion 971.8 million manats, accounts for external debt (6.1% of GDP), while 16 billion 492.9 million manats accounts for domestic state debt (12.6% of GDP). Compared to the same period a year earlier, these figures decreased by 7.6% and 8.4%, respectively.
The state budget for 2026 allocates 2 billion 457.6 million manats for servicing state debt and obligations. At the end of Q1, 524.2 million manats were paid: 132.5 million manats on domestic debt (interest payments) and 391.7 million manats on external debt, of which 269.5 million manats were principal debt payments and 122.2 million manats were interest payments.
