Zelensky and Trump spoke on the phone

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a strategically important telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. The key topic of the negotiations was the discussion of possible ways to end the war against Ukraine and prospective defense cooperation between the countries.
As Zelensky reported on his official Telegram channel, the conversation with the American leader was "productive and constructive." The Ukrainian president expressed gratitude to Trump for his efforts aimed at achieving a "fair and lasting peace" in the region.
"We discussed in detail the recent escalation of Russian strikes on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure. President Trump is fully aware of the nature and scale of these attacks," Zelensky emphasized.
Special attention during the conversation was paid to sanctions pressure on Russia. According to the Ukrainian leader, the Russian economy continues to show negative dynamics, which explains Moscow's increased attention to Trump's ultimatum, which "could radically change the situation."
The leaders also discussed joint initiatives with European partners to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities, including the allocation of financial resources for the purchase of American weapons for Ukrainian military personnel.
"Separately, we talked about our bilateral defense cooperation with America. The draft agreement on drones has already been fully prepared by the Ukrainian side, and we are ready for its detailed discussion and conclusion. This could become one of the most significant and mutually beneficial deals in the history of our relations," Zelensky emphasized.
It is worth recalling that earlier the President of Ukraine had already announced negotiations with Trump about the possibility of supplying Ukrainian drones to the US in exchange for American weapons.
