Trump made a statement after his unexpected decision

On Friday, US President Donald Trump confirmed that he does not intend to change plans for introducing new tariffs on goods from abroad.
He announced this on his account on the social network Truth Social.
Trump also commented on China's retaliatory measures, which became known on the same day. "China made a mistake by panicking, and that's the last thing they can afford," the American leader said.
Earlier, on Wednesday, Trump announced the introduction of "reciprocal" tariffs on products from 185 countries - US trading partners. The base tariff rate will be 10%, however, for some countries it is calculated individually taking into account the trade imbalance with the US. Thus, for China, tariffs will reach 34%, for the European Union - 20%, and for Japan - 24%.
