Traces of an unknown asteroid found

Australian scientists from Curtin University have made an amazing discovery, finding traces of a previously unknown asteroid impact. The research results are published in the scientific journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters (EPSL).
The research team conducted a thorough analysis of museum samples of tektites - natural glasses that form during a powerful impact of a cosmic body on the Earth's surface. The newly discovered type of tektites amazed scientists with its unique chemical composition. Even more impressive was the age of the find - about 11 million years.
When compared with other known samples, it turned out that the new tektites are almost 15 times older than their "counterparts". This observation led experts to believe that these samples may be associated with a completely different cosmic event, previously unknown to science. Despite the presumed significant scale of the collision, the crater from the asteroid impact has not yet been discovered.
