Reuters: Operation against Iran has depleted U.S. missile and ammunition stockpiles
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump will hold a meeting at the White House with the heads of the largest defense companies to discuss accelerating weapons production amid the depletion of their stockpiles following strikes on Iran.
This was reported by Reuters citing sources.
According to its information, representatives from Lockheed Martin and RTX, as well as several other suppliers, have been invited. The U.S. presidential administration intends to push for increased production output, while the Pentagon is preparing a request to Congress for additional funding of approximately $50 billion to replenish expended weaponry.
As the agency notes, the operation against the Islamic republic resulted in a significant amount of munitions being expended, including long-range missiles. Previously, substantial volumes of weapons had been directed to support Ukraine, as well as Israel during the military operations in the Gaza Strip. As a result, stockpiles of artillery systems, ammunition, and anti-tank missiles have been seriously depleted.
It should be recalled that on February 28, the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran. The largest cities of the Islamic republic came under strikes, including Tehran. The White House justified the attack by missile and nuclear threats allegedly posed by Iran.
As a result of the strikes, the country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several other key figures in the republic's leadership were killed.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced a large-scale retaliatory operation, attacking targets in Israel. U.S. bases in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia also came under strikes.
