New tick species found in Turkey that carries over 30 diseases

New species of dangerous tick discovered in Turkey. It can transmit over 30 pathogens.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to NTV channel, the tick Haemaphysalis longicornis, presumably of East Asian origin, is known for transmitting dangerous diseases affecting livestock. It is considered potentially dangerous for humans as well, NTV quotes Professor of Biology from Tokat University Adem Keskin.
According to him, the 56th tick species in Turkey was first discovered last year and delivered to a medical facility by a resident of Istanbul. "Research conducted since September 2024 has shown that the tick entered Turkey three to four years ago," the scientist said.
Earlier, local media reported that at least seven people have fallen victim to tick bites in Turkey this year. The first cases of bites were recorded in April.
