NASA Reports Increased Risk of Asteroid Collision with the Moon
Asteroid 2024 YR4, which previously threatened Earth, may collide with the Moon in 2032. The American space agency NASA has significantly revised its forecast, increasing the probability of this dramatic cosmic event to 3.8%.
In an official statement posted on NASA's website, a concerning trend is noted: as recently as late February, the probability of the asteroid colliding with our natural satellite was estimated to be significantly lower - at 1.7%.
"Experts from NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object Studies at the agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory have updated the probability... to 3.8% based on data from Webb and observations from ground-based telescopes," emphasizes the space agency's official publication.
