The U.S. State Department is evacuating some of its diplomats and family members of embassy staff from Saudi Arabia due to a security threat.

The relevant information has been posted on the department's website.

"Houthis [from the Yemeni movement Ansar Allah] are conducting military operations against Saudi Arabia, including striking civilian airports and other critical infrastructure facilities, resulting in civilian casualties and serious disruptions to transportation. There is a possibility of a rapid escalation of the conflict beyond the immediate combat zone," the statement said.

The State Department emphasized that diplomats "must obtain special authorization from the chief of mission to use any airport in Saudi Arabia due to recent missile and drone attacks on airports in the kingdom."

"U.S. citizens should be prepared for possible attacks on airports, airspace closures, flight cancellations, and transportation disruptions," the foreign affairs agency noted.

In addition, U.S. authorities reminded their citizens of the prohibition on "filming, publishing, or disseminating information related to missile defense systems and drones, as well as their impact sites" in the kingdom. "U.S. citizens have been detained for failing to comply with these rules, including for photographing government buildings, airports, and impact sites [of missiles and drones]," the State Department indicated.
