Iran appointed a new secretary of the Supreme National Security Council

President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian appointed the adviser to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Larijani, as the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council. This was reported by NourNews agency.
"By Masoud Pezeshkian's order, Ali Larijani has been appointed as the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council," the report states.
Since 2023, this position was held by Ali Akbar Ahmadian.
On July 16, Pezeshkian stated at a meeting of ministers that the country has "fundamental security problems" that were revealed during the Iran-Israel conflict. According to him, it is necessary to conduct appropriate diagnostics of pathologies in the security sphere to minimize damage to the Islamic Republic.
