The head of the national congress of the Smolensk region of Russia, entrepreneur Faik Aliyev has been sentenced to four years in a penal colony and a fine of 8.4 million rubles in a bribery case. This was reported to TASS by the regional prosecutor's office.

"The Leninsky District Court of Smolensk issued a verdict in a criminal case against an entrepreneur. He was found guilty under paragraph "b" part 4 of Article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (giving a bribe to an official for committing knowingly illegal actions and illegal inaction in a large amount)," the supervisory authority reported.

As clarified to TASS in court, the case concerns entrepreneur Faik Aliyev, who is also the head of the national congress of the Smolensk region. Earlier, the prosecutor of the Smolensk region Alexander Spitsin told TASS that a large-scale corruption scheme was suppressed in the region, during which employees of the electric grid company had been taking bribes from entrepreneurs for seven years to conceal the theft of electricity at large enterprises, hotels, restaurants and residential buildings. The total amount of bribes, according to preliminary data, exceeded 6 million rubles. Faik Aliyev also became one of the defendants in the criminal case of energy workers.

The court established that from March 2020 to December 2024, F. Aliyev, being the owner of a hotel complex and a shopping center, gave a bribe to an official of PJSC "IDGC of Centre" - "Smolenskenergo" in the amount of 846 thousand rubles.

"Taking into account the opinion of the state prosecutor, the court sentenced the entrepreneur to 4 years of imprisonment with a fine of 8,465,000 rubles to be served in a strict regime penal colony," the prosecutor's office reported.
