In Côte d'Ivoire, eleven people are reported missing after a canoe they were traveling in was overturned by a hippopotamus.
Among the missing are women, young girls and an infant, reports AFP news agency, citing a statement from government minister Belmonde Dogo.
The incident occurred on the Sassandra River, near the city of Buyo, when the boat was transporting local residents. Three passengers managed to escape.
Search and rescue operations are currently ongoing.
