All of Cuba has been left without electricity

A complete shutdown of the national energy system (SEN) occurred in Cuba, causing a massive blackout throughout the island.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to CiberCuba, the failure occurred at 09:14 local time (16:14 Baku time) due to the sudden breakdown of the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric power plant in Matanzas. Previously, this power plant had already caused major outages, including last week when the eastern part of the country was left without electricity.
The Ministry of Energy and Mining Industry (MINEM) confirmed that the accident at the thermal power plant led to the collapse of the power system, noting that the exact circumstances of the incident will be established later. The authorities also reported that restoration work has already begun.
UNE Director General Alfredo Lopez Valdes emphasized that equipment deterioration remains a critical factor. According to him, many Cuban thermal power plants have been operating for more than 40 years without major overhauls, causing delays in maintenance and sudden breakdowns.
Earlier, the Cuban government warned that in the coming months, the Guiteras thermal power plant would have to be closed for maintenance, which could provoke new disruptions in the power supply.
