87.15% of voters supported the new constitution in Kazakhstan at the referendum
The new Constitution of Kazakhstan was supported by 87.15% of citizens who came to polling stations at the republican referendum held on March 15.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Interfax, this was announced by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission Nurlan Abdirov.
"The number of citizens who voted in favor of the question put to the referendum was 7 million 954 thousand 667 people or 87.15%," Abdirov said, summing up the voting results at the CEC session on Tuesday.
898 thousand 99 citizens did not support the new constitution by voting "against," Abdirov noted.
The turnout was 73.12%, he added.
"The referendum on the question 'Do you accept the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the draft of which was published in the mass media on February 12, 2026?' is to be considered valid. The new Constitution put to a vote at the republican referendum is to be considered adopted," Abdirov said.
According to the CEC, the total number of voters on the lists was 12 million 482 thousand 613 people, and a total of 9 million 127 thousand 192 people voted.
146 thousand 558 ballots were declared invalid, and 127 thousand 868 were not counted.
On March 15, a republican referendum on the adoption of a new constitution was held in Kazakhstan. The new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan will come into force on July 1, 2026.
The main innovations of the constitution will include: the introduction of the position of vice president; the parliament will become unicameral and will be called the "Kurultai," which will consist of 145 deputies and will be elected exclusively on a party basis. Along with this, the supreme consultative body of Kazakhstan will be established — "Khalyk Kenesi" (People's Council), which will be vested with legislative initiative.
