The international climate organization World Weather Attribution (WWA) has presented an alarming report on the accelerating melting of Greenland's ice sheet.

According to the study, from May 15 to 21, 2025, the intensity of melting in the region exceeded the norm for this time of year by 17 times. The main cause was the anomalous heat that engulfed the Arctic in May.

In the Greenlandic town of Illoqqortoormiut, the temperature reached 14.3°C, which is 13.5°C above the average daily norm. In neighboring Iceland, a temperature record of 26.6°C was also recorded, more than twice the monthly average for 1991-2020.

According to climate satellites, since the beginning of the 21st century, the rate of ice sheet reduction has increased fourfold. Over the past 20 years, Greenland has lost more than 5 trillion tons of ice. Scientists are recording regular calving of icebergs weighing billions of tons.

Specialists warn: if melting continues at this rate, the level of the World Ocean will increase significantly, threatening coastal cities around the world.

The WWA organization, established in 2014 by scientists from Germany and the Netherlands and working under the auspices of Imperial College London, links these processes to global warming caused by human activity.
