Named the main cause of bad breath

Dentist Mario Giorgi noted that bad breath may be associated with various diseases. He discussed this in an interview with Terra publication.
According to him, there are about 60 causes of halitosis - the medical term for foul breath odor. The main cause is considered to be insufficient tongue hygiene, however, persistent odor may also indicate other problems such as gingivitis, periodontitis, or xerostomia (dry mouth).
Among the possible factors, Giorgi also highlighted sinusitis, tonsillitis, and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, including gastroesophageal reflux disease. Additionally, halitosis may be a consequence of metabolic disorders, such as diabetes.
