Named beverage that increases gout risks

The risks of developing gout increase when following an unhealthy plant-based diet, which is characterized by low whole grain content and a predominance of refined grains (these are grains from which the outer layers of the grain, such as bran and germ, have been removed) and sugar-containing beverages, Nuria Dianova, a first category dietitian and gastroenterologist, told "Gazeta.Ru".
Gout is the most common type of inflammatory arthritis caused by deposits of uric acid salts in the joints. The disease is accompanied by unbearable, rapidly increasing pain in the joints that passes within a few hours or days, while the skin over them turns red, and the joints themselves increase in size. Other symptoms include elevated body temperature, weakness, and sweating. In advanced cases, growths may form on the joints.
"Gout used to be called the 'disease of kings' and was associated with the abuse of red meat and alcohol. However, the 21st century has made its own adjustments to the dietary causes of gout, namely, supplementing the list with increased consumption of fish and sugar-sweetened juices and other beverages, as well as refined grains. To reduce the risk of developing the disease, one needs to follow a healthy plant-based diet, that is, consume whole grain products, tea and coffee, as well as low-fat dairy products. Fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids can also be consumed in moderate amounts. A healthy plant-based diet rich in fiber helps to cope with chronic inflammation," said Dianova.
