Swiss racing driver Laura Villars announced her candidacy for the presidency of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), becoming the first woman in the organization's history to run for this position. The election is scheduled for December 12 in Tashkent.

"My goal is to make the federation's governance more democratic, transparent, accountable and open to women and younger generations. I am confident that motorsport needs diversity and innovation to inspire a new generation around the world," The Athletic quotes Villars as saying.

As part of her election program, Villars highlighted several key areas. Among them are empowering clubs through regular consultations and public participation in governance, increasing transparency in finances and decision-making processes, strengthening the FIA's role as a global leader in sustainable mobility and road safety, as well as developing the "Women in Motorsport" program and creating an academy for young FIA leaders.
