Joshgun Aliyev defeated the Deaflympics champion and became the winner of Masters Top 18

Azerbaijani deaf judo athlete Joshgun Aliyev won a gold medal at the inaugural Ecole Mont-Olivet Deaf Judo Masters Top 18 tournament in Lausanne, Switzerland.

As Report informs, the athlete, competing in the 60 kg weight category, had three bouts.

In the first bout, J. Aliyev defeated the 2025 Deaflympic Games champion, Brazilian Dantes Pedro, with a score of 2:0. In the second match, the Azerbaijani athlete lost to Kazakhstan's Aktynberk Kakitayev (1:0), but in the final match, the judoka defeated Turkish athlete Nurullah Dündar by ippon and became the tournament winner.

By winning the gold medal, Joshgun Aliyev made history as the first Azerbaijani judoka to win the Masters Top 18 tournament.

It should be noted that the Ecole Mont-Olivet Deaf Judo Masters Top 18 is the first-ever international judo tournament of this level among deaf and hard-of-hearing athletes, and the competition is held under the auspices of the International Judo Federation (IJF).
