When will Ramiz Mehtiyev be excluded from the full members of ANAS?

After the court decision is announced, the question of expelling Ramiz Mehtiyev from the full membership of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) will be considered.

As reported by BAKU.WS, this was stated to APA by the president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbayli.

He noted that Ramiz Mehtiyev holds no other status at ANAS besides that of a full member of the academy.

"After the court decision is rendered, this matter will be considered at the general meeting of the ANAS Presidium, following which a corresponding decision will be made," he said.

It should be noted that earlier a unanimous decision was made to expel Ramiz Mehtiyev from the ranks of the "Yeni Azerbaijan" Party (YAP). It was also deemed appropriate to apply to the relevant authorities with a petition to strip him of all state awards.

As a reminder, Ramiz Mehtiyev served as the Head of the Presidential Administration from 1995 to 2019, and was the president of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) from 2019 to 2022.

In October 2025, the State Security Service opened a criminal case against Ramiz Mehtiyev.

Ramiz Mehtiyev has been charged under Articles 193-1.3.2 (legalization of property obtained through criminal means), 274 (treason), and 278.1 (actions aimed at the violent seizure of power or violent change of the constitutional order of the state) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
