33 years have passed since the establishment of CJSC "Azerbaijan Airlines" (AZAL), a key infrastructure of the country's civil aviation and a full member of the international aviation community.

AZAL was founded on April 7, 1992, by a decision of the republic's government after gaining independence.

AZAL's headquarters is located in Baku, at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, which meets the high requirements of international standards.

In 2004, by the decision of Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev, Baku's "Bina" airport was renamed "Heydar Aliyev International Airport".
