Tom Cruise received an Oscar for the first time
American actor and producer Tom Cruise was awarded an honorary Oscar for his outstanding contribution to the development of cinema, reports Variety. The award was presented to him by director Alejandro González Iñárritu at the Governors Awards ceremony.
Receiving his first statuette from the Academy, Cruise delivered a touching speech. He said that cinema awakened in him a thirst for adventure, a desire to learn and understand humanity, helped him create characters and tell stories, see the world. "Cinema is not just my job. It's who I am," emphasized the actor.
Previously, Cruise was nominated for an Oscar four times: for his roles in the films "Born on the Fourth of July," "Jerry Maguire" and "Magnolia," as well as for producing the film "Top Gun: Maverick."
