Moscow aims to unlock the full potential of relations with Baku.

As Oxu.Az reports, this was stated at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, commenting on the decision of Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev not to go to Moscow for the Victory Day parade on May 9.

"You know, we build relations with Baku on the basis of the declaration on allied interaction signed at the highest level in February 2022. Our side is committed to consistently revealing the full potential of this key document for bilateral relations, to resolving all emerging issues on a mutually beneficial, mutually respectful basis," she said. The diplomat added that Moscow and Baku are conducting "a series of high-level contacts through governments and foreign ministries."

"You know, it's surprising, as if there were no corresponding parade units that arrived from Azerbaijan to share this holiday with us, to complement it with their magnificent participation, and also to honor the memory of veterans who served in the ranks of the Red Army in various republics of the Soviet Union, being ethnically Azerbaijanis. Why don't you pay attention to this?" noted the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

As Zakharova emphasized, the Russian side was pleased that the peoples of Russia and Azerbaijan "are united in their respectful attitude to historical memory, to the impossibility of forgetting the feat" of their ancestors. "As for the schedules of leaders - firstly, this has already been discussed in the presidential administration, and secondly, different things happen. But simply not seeing the obvious is also wrong, unfair and, by the way, very dangerous," the diplomat concluded.

On May 7, Russian leader's aide Yuri Ushakov reported that Ilham Aliyev would not be present at the celebrations in Moscow on May 9 due to the need to participate in internal events dedicated to Heydar Aliyev's birthday.
