The latest edition of Baku TV's "War Chronicle" section examines current geopolitical processes in the Middle East, including the emergence of new radical groups and risks to regional security.

It is noted that against the backdrop of escalating confrontation between the US, Israel, and Iran, a new armed group posing a serious threat has formed in eastern Syria and border areas with Iraq. Operating under the name "Ansar Beit al-Maqdis," it has already claimed its first attack - on the Al-Shaddadi military base in northeastern Syria.

The name "Beit al-Maqdis" itself, associated with Jerusalem and Islamic holy sites, is symbolic in nature and points to an effort to ideologically link the group's activities with the Palestinian agenda.

According to initial statements, the group's primary targets are US forces in the region. Experts note that existing security gaps in Syria and Iraq create conditions for the activation of radical elements and the expansion of their presence.

Additionally, there is a theory that the core of the new structure may consist of former ISIS fighters who lost territorial control in 2019.

Analysts do not rule out that the formation of such groups indicates not only a local threat but also the beginning of a new phase of large-scale geopolitical confrontation in the Middle East.
