Azerbaijan has had the honor of hosting yet another significant global event - the World Urban Forum (WUF13), - which became the second largest international gathering in the country after the COP29 climate conference.

This was stated in a post by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the social network X.

The post notes that the organizers congratulate all participants, partners, and the United Nations system, particularly the UN-Habitat program, on the successful and results-oriented conduct of this event.

"With a record number of delegates totaling approximately 60,000 people, the forum has gone down in history as the largest ever organized in the field of urbanism. The Leaders' Summit, held for the first time at Azerbaijan's initiative, provided a powerful political impetus for advancing the global human settlements development agenda.

The intensive and comprehensive discussions concluded with the agreement on two key documents - the Chair's Summary and the Baku Call to Action. As a country that has experienced urbicide, cultural destruction, and ecocide, Azerbaijan is currently rebuilding from the ground up nine cities and hundreds of rural settlements in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur. In this regard, it is a source of pride that the international community has firmly recognized Azerbaijan's post-conflict reconstruction efforts, which have been noted as an important example for other regions undergoing recovery.

The concepts shaped at the forum's platforms and enshrined in the final declarations, covering a range of issues - from air quality and sustainable development of megacities to the protection of cultural heritage and support for small island developing states - will further complement and guide the global urban agenda," the head of state's post reads.

In conclusion, it was emphasized that during a period of increasing global instability, this large-scale event became yet another significant contribution by Azerbaijan to the development of multilateral cooperation and joint actions aimed at building a prosperous future.
