President Ilham Aliyev congratulated Pope Leo XIV

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev sent a letter to Pope Leo XIV on the occasion of his election as the head of the Roman Catholic Church.

The text of the message was published by AZERTAG:

"Your Holiness.

I am pleased, on my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Azerbaijan, to cordially congratulate you on your election as Pope.

The current level of relations, sincere dialogue and mutual understanding between Azerbaijan and the Holy See are exemplary. We attach special importance to developing ties with the Holy See.

In Azerbaijan, which has centuries-old rich traditions of tolerance and multicultural values, the preservation of religious-spiritual and ethno-cultural diversity constitutes one of the main directions of state policy.

I believe that the fruitful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Holy See will continue to successfully progress through our joint efforts in the name of promoting universal human values and creating an atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust between civilizations.

I wish you good health, long life, and success in your upcoming highest mission in the name of universal and sacred goals".
