Leila Aliyeva participated in an event organized by WHO

On June 11, the Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union Leyla Aliyeva participated via videoconference in the opening and first hybrid hearings of the Pan-European Commission on Climate and Health, held in Reykjavik (Iceland). The event was organized at the initiative of the World Health Organization's Regional Office for Europe.

As reported by BAKU.WS, speaking at the event, Leyla Aliyeva spoke about the initiatives, achievements, and experience of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which hosted COP29 last year. She emphasized that climate change has become one of the key topics on the global agenda not only as an environmental issue but also as a serious challenge for public health.

In her speech, Leyla Aliyeva highlighted projects implemented by Azerbaijan in recent years in the areas of water resource management, environmental protection, and ensuring climate resilience. She also emphasized the importance of engaging youth in active participation in climate and health issues through various projects initiated by the IDEA Public Union. Leyla Aliyeva invited international experts and organizations to broader cooperation in this direction.

After Leyla Aliyeva's speech, Hans Kluge, the Regional Director of the World Health Organization for Europe, took the floor and highly appreciated Azerbaijan's initiative and leadership within the framework of COP29. He noted that Azerbaijan plays an important role in combating climate change not only in the region but also on a global scale, demonstrating exemplary approaches in this field. During his speech, Hans Kluge also expressed special gratitude to Leyla Aliyeva for her contribution to projects and initiatives in the field of climate change and public health.
