Ilham Aliyev congratulated Andy Burnham

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev sent a congratulatory letter to Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Andy Burnham.

As reported by AZERTAC, the message states:

"Dear Mr. Prime Minister,

I sincerely congratulate you on your appointment as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

We attach special importance to the comprehensive development of relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom, which are based on rich and good traditions. The dynamic development of trade and economic cooperation, the steady deepening and enrichment with new content of our time-tested strategic partnership in the energy sector are a source of satisfaction.

Companies representing your country participate in a number of important projects in Azerbaijan and operate effectively here in both the oil and non-oil sectors of the country's economy. I would like to particularly note our many years of successful joint activities with bp in the field of both traditional and renewable energy. The fact that companies from the United Kingdom were among the first foreign companies invited by Azerbaijan after the liberation of our lands from occupation and are actively participating in the construction and restoration work being carried out there today testifies to the high level of cooperation between our countries.

I am confident that the friendly relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom will continue to develop successfully through our joint efforts in the interests of our peoples, and that our partnership will be further strengthened.
