Azerbaijan is becoming, and has even already become, a middle power, and we believe that at an event like this, it is possible to define the criteria that characterize such a country.

As reported by AZERTAC, President Ilham Aliyev stated this at the opening of the IV Shusha Global Media Forum.

"In my view, in purely terminological terms, the criterion that defines a middle power is the recognition of that country's potential, the recognition of its ability to defend its own national interests," the head of state declared.
