Georgian media widely covered Ilham Aliyev's statements on energy corridors and exports

Georgian media widely covered the statements of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on electricity exports to Europe and energy corridors.

As Report informs, leading television channels and news outlets of Georgia paid extensive attention to the interview of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during his visit to Nakhchivan.

In the materials published on the websites of Georgian Public Broadcasting (1TV) and the "Imedi" TV channel, the words of the President of Azerbaijan about the intention to export electricity to the European market, about the role of Georgia and Turkey as the main transit route in this direction, as well as about the creation of new energy and transport links in the region were brought to the forefront.

The outlets cited Ilham Aliyev's quotes and commented on his words. "Azerbaijan already exports oil and gas to the European market and intends to expand its capabilities in the direction of supplying electricity to the European market," the publications quoted the President. According to the head of state, currently the main route for exporting Azerbaijan's electricity to the European market passes through Georgia and Turkey.

"I say once again, in our region there is no other country besides us that would be provided with such a volume of energy resources, be it oil and gas or electricity. By expanding our export capabilities to neighboring countries, we will also enter the European market. Because we have now entered the European market with our oil and gas. But we also want to enter it with electricity," these thoughts of Ilham Aliyev were widely circulated by the outlets.

It is noted that the President of Azerbaijan, emphasizing the importance of expanding these capabilities, drew particular attention to the project of laying an energy cable along the bottom of the Black Sea. He reported that the feasibility study of the project is already ready and the creation of a second power transmission line could further strengthen Azerbaijan's capabilities.

Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan's energy system is currently connected to the energy systems of Russia, Iran, and Georgia, and through Georgia access is provided to Turkey and further to the European market.

The President of Azerbaijan announced the readiness of the project to lay power transmission lines from the main part of Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan through the territory of Armenia.

Ilham Aliyev noted that this project in the future could become an integral part of the Zangezur corridor and TRIPP.

"This will be an integral part of the Zangezur corridor, TRIPP. Because this project is not just a railway, a highway. Even a fiber-optic cable, power transmission lines, and in the future, if necessary, oil and gas pipelines could pass through here," he said.

The President of Azerbaijan in his interview also touched upon the economic significance of the Zangezur corridor. He stated that the transportation of 15 million tons and more of cargo through the corridor will make it possible to create additional economic activity, open new jobs, and turn Nakhchivan into one of the important transport centers.

Ilham Aliyev noted that when the idea of the Zangezur corridor was first put forward, the main attention was directed at the transport segment, however, currently the project is being considered in a broader context.

The extensive coverage by Georgian media of the statements of the President of Azerbaijan also brought to the forefront the relevance of Baku-Tbilisi cooperation, especially in terms of energy, transport, and transit opportunities.

It should be noted that Georgia is one of the main transit countries in bringing Azerbaijani energy resources to the Turkish and European markets. The projects implemented between Azerbaijan and Georgia in the fields of energy and transport are of great importance in terms of strengthening the regional connectivity of the South Caucasus and Europe's energy security.
