Today, International Women's Day is celebrated around the world.

On August 27, 1910, at the II International Socialist Women's Conference held in Copenhagen, Denmark, as part of the VIII Congress of the Second International, German political activist Clara Zetkin proposed the establishment of International Women's Day.

Historically, the holiday emerged as a day of solidarity of working women in the struggle for equal rights and emancipation. To this day, in many countries around the world, March 8 is celebrated precisely as a day of working women.

Since 1911, International Women's Day began to be celebrated in Germany, Austria, Denmark, and Switzerland, and since 1913 - in Russia. In Azerbaijan, this day has been regularly celebrated since 1917.

In 1998, the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children's Affairs was established in Azerbaijan. Our country is represented in the Bureau for Women's Affairs of the Council of Europe and is also a full member of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

Since 1995, Azerbaijan has acceded to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
