The first herald of Novruz: residents of Oghuz told about ancient customs of celebrating Chershenbeh
Novruz is a holiday of abundance, beauty, and love, encompassing traditions and customs that have stood the test of centuries.
The arrival of spring symbolizes the awakening of nature and the renewal of life.
The first Chershenbeh ("Su Chershenbesi"), heralding the coming of Novruz, was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the village of Khachmaz in the Oghuz district.
"In the morning on this day, we collect water and store it, and on the following Tuesday (chershenbeh), we pour it out and replace it with fresh water. We visit each other and treat our neighbors and relatives to homemade sweets and pilaf," one of the residents told Baku TV.
Another resident shared deeper knowledge about the traditions: "In our region, this chershenbeh has been called 'sular chershenbesi' since ancient times. Water, as we know, is the source of life. One of the customs associated with chershenbeh is to go to the water early in the morning, make a wish, and jump over it, believing that you will be healthy throughout the year. Also, houses were cleaned, which symbolized both physical and spiritual purification."
