The end of the four-year bachelor's degree in Azerbaijan? A bold proposal has been put forward in the Milli Majlis
A resonant proposal was voiced in the Milli Majlis about a possible transition to a three-year bachelor's degree program following the example of leading universities worldwide.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Oxu.Az, this statement was made at the first session of the 2026 autumn session of the parliamentary committee on science and education.
"Recently, one of the universities located in the United States of America transitioned to a three-year bachelor's degree education. Although this system has been applied in Europe for a long time, US universities exclusively had a four-year form of higher education. The decision is attributed to changing market demands, the need for flexibility, the creation of new specialties, and ensuring the accessibility of education," said MP Fariz Ismayilzade.
The parliamentarian then put forward a specific proposal: "I believe that we too can revise the law on higher education, introduce new standards so that universities meet international requirements while also possessing flexibility. We can also hold public hearings on this topic."
