Today, September 18, National Music Day is celebrated in Azerbaijan.

As reported by BAKU.WS, this holiday has gone down in history as the birthday of the outstanding composer, musicologist, pedagogue, publicist, playwright, and founder of Azerbaijani professional musical art Uzeyir Hajibeyov (1885-1948).

It was his opera "Leyli and Majnun" that became the first classical musical work in Azerbaijan and in the entire Muslim world. It was first performed on stage in 1908.

Uzeyir Hajibeyov is the author of the music for the anthem of Azerbaijan, and his vivid musical comedies full of lively humor and national flavor, "Arshin Mal Alan" and "Not That One, So This One," remain relevant to this day. They continue to attract the attention of not only Azerbaijani but also foreign directors.

It should be noted that National Music Day is celebrated annually in the country in accordance with the decree of the national leader Heydar Aliyev dated September 18, 1995.
