Azerbaijan Celebrates National Music Day
Today, September 18, Azerbaijan celebrates National Music Day.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this holiday has gone down in history as the birthday of the outstanding composer, musicologist, teacher, publicist, playwright, and founder of Azerbaijani professional musical art Uzeyir Hajibeyli (1885-1948).
It was his opera "Leyli and Majnun" that became the first classical musical work in Azerbaijan and throughout the Muslim world. It was first performed on stage in 1908.
Uzeyir Hajibeyli is the composer of the music for the Azerbaijan national anthem, and his vibrant musical comedies "Arshin Mal Alan" and "If Not This One, Then That One," full of lively humor and national color, remain relevant to this day. They are repeatedly revisited not only by Azerbaijani but also by foreign directors.
It should be noted that National Music Day is celebrated annually in the country in accordance with the decree of National Leader Heydar Aliyev dated September 18, 1995.
