From June 1, 2025, the popular messenger WhatsApp will stop functioning on a number of outdated smartphone models, including some iPhone versions and many Android-based devices.

According to the 9to5Mac portal, citing the company, the application will stop working on devices running iOS 15.1 and Android 5.1, as well as older versions of operating systems.

This decision will affect hundreds of Android device models. Among Apple products, the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus will be on the "blacklist".

9to5Mac clarifies that some media also mention iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, and first-generation SE, however, these models support updates to iOS 15.8.4, which will allow the messenger to continue working on these devices.

Despite the fact that the listed smartphones are no longer considered modern, millions of people around the world still actively use them.

Users of outdated devices are recommended to update their operating system if such an option exists. If an update is not available but it is necessary to continue using WhatsApp, the only solution will be to purchase a more modern gadget.
