Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on June 6, which corresponds to the tenth day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah according to the lunar Hijri calendar.

According to BAKU.WS, this was reported by the Caucasus Muslims Board.

According to Sharia law, the ritual of sacrifice will begin on June 6 and last for three days. On this day, festive prayers will be held in mosques.

Azerbaijan, with its rich historical and cultural heritage, is one of the countries where Eid al-Adha is celebrated with special reverence. During these festive days, people visit mosques, perform prayers and, by making sacrifices, share meat with family members, neighbors, and those in need. The spiritual and social aspects of the holiday strengthen society's solidarity and the spirit of mutual assistance.

Is it mandatory to perform a sacrifice?

Sacrifice is divided into two types: obligatory and recommended. Obligatory sacrifice is prescribed for those who perform Hajj, as well as in cases of vows, oaths, and similar situations. In the modern ummah, the tradition of sacrifice is recommended. For a person who has the means, performing a sacrifice is a strongly recommended action.

Who can perform a sacrifice?

If a person has money for a sacrifice, they can also transfer these funds to those in need. One can sacrifice one animal on behalf of oneself and one's family. Joint sacrifice is also permitted.

When should the sacrifice be performed?

The best time for sacrifice is on the day of Eid al-Adha after sunrise and after performing the festive prayer. The sacrificial animal must be one of three types: camel, cow, or small livestock. It is not permissible to sacrifice a camel younger than five years, a cow and goat younger than two years, or a sheep younger than seven months.

Requirements that are mandatory for sacrificial animals during obligatory sacrifice are not mandatory for recommended sacrifice. Thus, one can sacrifice an animal with one eye, a lame animal, one with a cut ear, broken horn, or a thin one. However, it is preferable that the animal be healthy and well-fed. It is undesirable to sacrifice an animal that a person has raised themselves.

How should the meat of the sacrificial animal be distributed?

A person performing the sacrifice is allowed to keep one-third of the meat for themselves and their family, and give another third to any Muslim of their choice. However, it is better if the last third is distributed as charity to poor Muslims.
