WP: Rubio and Waltz advocate for strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Presidential National Security Advisor Mike Waltz advocate for strikes on Iranian facilities where Tehran is allegedly developing nuclear weapons.

This was reported by The Washington Post, citing its sources.

According to them, there are ongoing debates in President Donald Trump's inner circle about Iran policy. Currently, the American leader wants to continue engaging with Tehran through diplomatic channels. However, it remains unclear what outcome Trump is seeking and how long he is willing to wait for it.

Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard are "more cautious about the likely further consequences of a new conflict in the Middle East." Additionally, several other officials are advising Trump to use diplomacy.

Advocates of a more restrained approach note that according to US intelligence assessments, Tehran is not planning to create nuclear weapons, and bombing Iran would likely provoke a larger regional war.

According to The Washington Post, similar to the US, Israel is debating whether to launch a preemptive strike on Iranian nuclear facilities and whether such action would successfully eliminate Iran's nuclear program.

The newspaper's sources stated that previously, Israel's Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer assured high-ranking US officials that the US and Israel could destroy Iran's underground nuclear facilities if the US Air Force used bunker-busting bombs. However, the American administration did not support this idea.
