Two strong flares occurred on the Sun

Four flares of the penultimate power class - M - were recorded on the Sun during the night and morning of October 18. This was reported by the press service of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to scientists, the last flare (M1.32) lasted from 9:50 to 10:04 Moscow time (from 10:50 to 11:04 Baku time), and the first one (M1.0) - from 3:23 to 3:39 Moscow time (from 4:23 to 4:39 Baku time).
According to the forecast, magnetic storms are expected to begin in the coming hours.
The last magnetic storm on Earth was observed on October 12 - it reached level G1 on a five-point scale, where G5 means an "extremely strong" storm, and G1 means a "weak" one.
Earlier, on October 4, Sergey Bogachev, head of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute (IKI RAS), reported the end of one of the longest magnetic storms of the current solar cycle.
