Katya Aveiro, sister of the famous Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, made a public explanation on social media about why her brother did not attend the funeral of Liverpool player Diogo Jota.

"When my father died in 2005, we had to deal with a stream of cameras and curious onlookers at the cemetery and everywhere we went. And the attention wasn't like it is now, we couldn't leave the chapel," Aveiro wrote.

The tragic car accident that claimed Jota's life occurred on July 3 in the province of Zamora in western Spain. The talented forward was only 28 years old. His brother Andre, who played for the Portuguese club Penafiel, was also in the car. Both footballers died, burning in the vehicle.

What made the circumstances particularly tragic was that just a few days before the fatal accident, Jota had gotten married.

In the past English Premier League season, Diogo Jota became a champion with Liverpool. During the season, he played 26 matches in the EPL, scoring six goals. In the Champions League, the footballer played four matches without any goal contributions. Since joining Liverpool in 2020, Jota participated in 182 matches, scoring 65 goals.
