Elon Musk became the first trillionaire in history
American entrepreneur Elon Musk has become the first trillionaire in history thanks to the listing of SpaceX shares in an IPO.
This was reported by the British agency Reuters.
According to its information, the company had previously announced that it would raise a record $75 billion through the IPO.
The American company SpaceX disclosed the price and number of shares ahead of their public listing on the stock exchange on June 11. The company listed 555,555,555 shares at a price of $135 per share. SpaceX securities will be traded on the Nasdaq electronic exchange starting June 12 under the ticker SPCX.
The status of entrepreneur Elon Musk as the first trillionaire in history requires clarification, writes the American newspaper The Washington Post (WP).
According to the publication, formally, the businessman's stake in SpaceX and Tesla after the former's IPO listing is valued at $1.1 trillion. However, some of this money the entrepreneur will only be able to receive in the distant future. In particular, SpaceX shares worth $867 billion will only be able to pay off after the establishment of a human colony on Mars, according to the article.
WP noted that Musk receives part of his income in the form of stock packages that are tied to specific milestones. Without taking these securities into account, the entrepreneur's wealth is not large enough to qualify for trillionaire status, the journalists clarified.
