Women warned about the dangers of wearing a wet swimsuit

Prolonged wearing of a wet swimsuit in hot weather can lead to the development of cystitis, candidiasis, bacterial vaginosis, and other urogenital infections. This was reported to El Periodico De España (EPE) by Dr. Luis Tejedor, head of the Department of Internal Medicine and Geriatrics at Vitas Madrid Arturo Soria University Hospital.
According to the specialist, in summer people more often relax in warm places, go outside, visit beaches and swimming pools. It is during this time that infectious diseases provoked by a humid and warm environment become more acute. Among them, cystitis is particularly common - an inflammatory disease of the bladder associated with disruption of the intimate microflora.
"In many cases, cystitis occurs due to the habit of staying in a wet swimsuit for a long time. The adherence of damp fabric creates ideal conditions for bacterial growth, disrupts the microflora of the genitals, and causes irritation," noted Dr. Tejedor.
He emphasized that constant moisture changes the pH level (acidity) of the vagina and weakens natural defense mechanisms. Women with weakened immune systems, uncontrolled diabetes, and those taking antibiotics should be especially careful: in these cases, the risk of infection increases significantly.
