This was stated to NEWS.ru by Oleg Medvedev, Head of the Department of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine of Lomonosov Moscow State University and Scientific Director of the "Healthy Nutrition" Research Center.

According to him, simple dietary approaches that include more whole foods can work as part of a mental health support strategy.

"Nutrition can be not just a background factor, but also part of a strategy for the prevention and management of mental disorders. The most promising approaches are simple ones: more whole foods, fiber, legumes, vegetables, fruits, nuts, olive oil, fish, and less ultra-processed food. Prebiotics, probiotics, and psychobiotics can also be beneficial, but their effects depend on individual microbiota characteristics and the baseline diet. A diet emphasizing plant-based and minimally processed foods is an accessible tool for supporting mood, stress resilience, and cognitive health. The future lies in personalized approaches," Medvedev explained.
