When blood pressure is elevated, doctors advise not to ignore regular urine tests, as they can detect hidden kidney function disorders at an early stage.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the Daily Mirror, U.S.-based clinical pharmacist Anum Iqbal explained that prolonged hypertension gradually damages the small blood vessels in the kidneys, causing their filtering function to start malfunctioning.

According to the specialist, the kidneys serve as the body's natural filter, cleansing the blood of excess fluid and metabolic waste products. However, when blood vessels are damaged, this mechanism is disrupted: beneficial substances may be excreted in urine, while harmful ones, on the contrary, may be retained in the body.

One of the most informative indicators is the albumin-to-creatinine ratio. Normally, albumin — an important blood protein — is virtually undetectable in urine. Its presence signals potential problems with the kidney filter. Creatinine, on the other hand, is excreted at a stable rate and is used as a reference point for assessing the concentration of other substances, which helps doctors diagnose disorders more accurately.

The expert recommends taking this test immediately after high blood pressure is detected and subsequently undergoing the check at least once a year.

The medical professional also emphasized that early diagnosis plays a key role: in the initial stages, diseases may be asymptomatic, but timely treatment can significantly slow their progression or even prevent complications altogether.
