Named diet that can relieve chronic headache

A diet with increased omega-3 fatty acids content can effectively reduce the frequency and intensity of chronic headaches. This conclusion was reached by scientists from the USA. The results of the clinical study were published in the Journal of Neurotrauma (JN).
The study involved 122 patients with post-traumatic headaches. For 12 weeks, they followed one of two types of diets. The first was a standard diet with the usual ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Participants from the second group consumed more omega-3 and less omega-6.
Omega acids support the function of the heart, brain, nervous system, immune system, and improve the condition of skin, hair, and nails. The human body cannot synthesize them on its own, so these compounds come from food.
It is believed that a lack of omega-3 in the body and an excess of omega-6 leads to an imbalance and increases the risk of various inflammatory processes. The second type of acids is especially abundant in confectionery, processed foods, fast food, and sausage products, although in small quantities they are necessary for maintaining health.
Participants who consumed more omega-3 experienced a reduction in headache duration by an average of two days per month. The intensity of pain decreased by 30% compared to the control group. Blood analysis confirmed an increase in the level of anti-inflammatory compounds associated with omega-3 in the bodies of subjects from the first group.
The authors emphasize that dietary adjustments can be a safe and accessible way to complement the treatment of chronic headaches, especially for patients with traumatic brain injuries. According to the researchers, approved methods of therapy for such conditions do not yet exist.
