Expert warns: underwear has an expiration date
Underwear has an expiration date, claims pharmacologist Ana Carolina Gonçalves. She stated the maximum period for using underwear to the publication Daily Express.
According to the doctor, a survey conducted by an underwear brand showed that 16 percent of Britons wear one pair of underwear for more than five years. Gonçalves warns that this increases the risk of developing bacterial and fungal infections of the reproductive system and urinary tract. "Over time, the fabric fibers tear and thin out, and microbes remain on the item even after washing," she noted.
The pharmacologist advises discarding underwear at the first signs of wear, which usually occurs after 6-12 months of use. She also recommends not wearing one pair of underwear for more than one day, as reusing soiled underwear increases the risk of infections.
