A cardiologist revealed which everyday habits can significantly increase the risk of a heart attack. According to the specialist, the danger is posed not only by smoking and alcohol but also by less obvious factors.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Russian media, cardiologist Valeria Tkhorikova noted that an unhealthy diet high in salt, sugar, and trans fats contributes to elevated cholesterol levels and blood pressure. An equally dangerous factor is a sedentary lifestyle: people who are physically inactive have approximately twice the risk of a heart attack compared to those who dedicate at least 30 minutes a day to physical activity.

According to the specialist, sleep quality also plays an important role. People who sleep less than six hours a day are more likely to experience a heart attack than those who get the recommended 7–9 hours of rest. Working night shifts is also considered an additional risk factor.

The cardiologist added that constant stress, anxiety, and chronic nervous tension negatively affect the heart and blood vessels. At the same time, a combination of several unhealthy habits significantly increases the likelihood of cardiovascular diseases.

The expert emphasized that it is impossible to completely eliminate the risk of a heart attack; however, a healthy diet, regular physical activity, adequate sleep, and giving up bad habits can substantially reduce the likelihood of its occurrence.
