Regular fish consumption can become part of a healthy diet - but with some caveats.

As reported by BAKU.WS, medical specialists shared this information in comments to Delish publication.

Nutritional consultant Rosemary Trout and doctor Raj Dasgupta note that fish is a versatile source of complete protein, which contains all the essential amino acids necessary for the body. Particularly rich in beneficial nutrients are species such as salmon and tuna: they contain fatty acids that promote heart health, and are also sources of iodine and choline.

"Regular fish consumption is associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and can benefit mental health," notes Dr. Dasgupta.

However, specialists emphasize: variety in the diet remains important. Although daily fish consumption is acceptable for most people, excessive consumption of the same species can lead to accumulation of contaminants, particularly mercury.

"Methylmercury is especially dangerous for the central nervous system and developing brain," warns Trout. "Pregnant and nursing women should avoid fish with high mercury content: tuna, shark, and swordfish."

Experts consider these fish species safe:

  • salmon

  • shrimp

  • black sea bass

  • cod

  • tilapia

  • sardines

  • scallops

  • lobster

Regarding the choice between wild and farmed fish - both are suitable, according to specialists. The main thing is to buy fish from a reliable seller and monitor storage conditions: it should be chilled or frozen.
