Blood substances that destroy kidneys identified

Increased levels of certain substances in the blood negatively affect the kidneys, warned Russian therapist Anastasia Timoshchenko. The expert revealed a list of potentially dangerous compounds that can cause serious damage to this vital organ in a conversation with NEWS.ru.

According to Timoshchenko, kidney functionality can significantly decrease with elevated blood glucose levels. The specialist recommends special vigilance for people in risk groups: those with a hereditary predisposition to diabetes, those suffering from excess body weight, or those taking glucocorticosteroids. Such patients need to regularly monitor their glucose levels.

An equally dangerous factor is an elevated level of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoproteins). Timoshchenko emphasized that high cholesterol levels can lead to blockage of arteries that supply blood to the kidneys, as well as provoke inflammatory processes. The consequences of such changes can be extremely serious - from chronic blood supply disruption to full-fledged organ damage, concluded the therapist.
